INTRODUCTION

Calvary Hospital has a vision in Wamena for missionaries to mentor and teach Papuan staff.

This medical center cares for the local population as well as accept referrals from outlying villages. Its most important function will be as a place for on-the-job training of the village health workers.

Helimission and MAF in Wamena both evacuate sick people from outlying villages to the center.

There is also a plan for a community health outreach with special emphasis on HIV (which is becoming a major problem here), TB, STD's, and other specific local concerns.

The medical center is a beacon of compassionate care by local Christians to their neighbors, walking in the footsteps of Christ who always had time for the sick and the lost.
